The Green Pencil Foundation, under its Clean and Green Faridabad Mission, organized a Sustainable Practices Workshop at Government Senior Secondary School, NIT Faridabad. The workshop, attended by 250 students from classes 6 to 12, focused on educating young minds about sustainability, civic sense, waste management, and reducing carbon footprints.
Empowering Students with Sustainability Knowledge
The students, aged between 8 and 16 years, actively engaged in learning practical solutions to combat environmental issues. The workshop covered key topics such as:
Waste Management & Sustainable Living – Students were introduced to effective waste segregation and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling materials.
Civic Sense & Carbon Footprint Reduction – The session emphasized the role of public transport and bicycles in reducing carbon emissions, encouraging students to adopt eco-friendly travel habits.
Soil and Water Health – Participants learned about sustainable water conservation techniques and soil preservation methods to protect natural resources.
Leadership Insights on Faridabad’s Environmental Challenges
Addressing the students, Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, highlighted the pressing environmental concerns in Faridabad.
“Air pollution and improper waste management are major challenges affecting the health of Faridabad’s citizens. However, small steps can lead to significant changes. Using solar panels, refusing and reducing polythene and single-use plastic, opting for cloth bags for fruits and vegetables, and switching to reusable metal bottles can drastically cut plastic waste. Additionally, adopting reusable and eco-friendly cloth pads can help in reducing menstrual waste,” he stated.
Support and Encouragement from the School Administration
The workshop was well-received by the school community. Ms. Jyoti Mangla, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, NIT Faridabad, appreciated the initiative, stating:
“The Green Pencil Foundation is doing commendable work through its Clean and Green Faridabad Mission by bringing sustainability education to government schools. Transforming youth through such workshops will surely create young sustainability heroes.”
Dedicated Volunteer Support
The session was actively supported by Green Pencil Foundation volunteers, including Mr. Prem Kumar, Abhishek Kumar, Ajay Sharma, and Kishan Kumar. Their efforts ensured an interactive and impactful learning experience for students.
Abhishek Kumar, one of the volunteers, reinforced the Foundation’s mission:
“Our goal is to address Faridabad’s biggest environmental challenges—air pollution and waste mismanagement—through climate education and practical sustainable practices. This initiative will play a key role in making Faridabad a cleaner and greener city.”
Moving Forward with the Clean and Green Faridabad Mission
The Clean and Green Faridabad Mission, a CSR-backed initiative of the Green Pencil Foundation, continues to drive environmental awareness and action. With plans to expand sustainable practices workshops across more government schools, the initiative aims to create an environmentally conscious and responsible young generation.
By instilling sustainability values in students, the Green Pencil Foundation is paving the way for a healthier and greener future for Faridabad.
