On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (University of Delhi), organized a Yamuna Clean-up Drive at Kalindi Kunj Ghat. The initiative was conducted under the Foundation’s ongoing campaign, Pollution Se Azaadi, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and action.
The clean-up drive witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 35 volunteers, including students and young environmental advocates. Together, they collected approximately 100 kilograms of solid waste from the riverbank, highlighting both the scale of pollution and the power of collective action.
The activity was led by Mr. Ashvin, a dedicated member of the Green Pencil Foundation’s Delhi team, who ensured effective coordination and motivated participants throughout the drive. The initiative not only focused on waste removal but also emphasized the importance of responsible environmental behavior and community engagement.
The Yamuna River, often referred to as the lifeline of Delhi, continues to face severe pollution challenges due to unchecked waste disposal, industrial discharge, and lack of awareness. Through such on-ground initiatives, the Green Pencil Foundation aims to inspire citizens to take ownership of their surroundings and contribute towards restoring the ecological balance.
As a gesture of appreciation, all participants were awarded certificates and provided refreshments, recognizing their valuable contribution to the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives from the Green Pencil Foundation reiterated the importance of moving beyond symbolic celebrations of World Environment Day towards meaningful action. “Awareness is important, but action is critical. Every small effort contributes to a larger impact,” the team emphasized.
The Foundation continues to actively engage with youth, educational institutions, and communities across India to promote sustainable practices, environmental responsibility, and climate action.
