Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Forest Department, organized a Mega Tree Plantation Drive at DDA Forest Park, Central Ridge, New Delhi, planting 200 native saplings with the support of 35 dedicated volunteers. The initiative reinforces the collective commitment towards restoring Delhi’s urban forests, enhancing biodiversity, and building climate resilience.
Restoring Delhi’s Green Heritage Through Community Action
As climate change, rising temperatures, and rapid urbanization continue to challenge cities across India, protecting and restoring urban forests has become more important than ever. Green spaces are not merely recreational areas—they are living ecosystems that improve air quality, conserve biodiversity, regulate temperatures, recharge groundwater, and enhance the overall well-being of communities.
With this vision, Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Forest Department, successfully organized a Mega Tree Plantation Drive at the DDA Forest Park, Central Ridge, New Delhi.
The drive brought together 35 passionate volunteers who worked with enthusiasm and dedication to plant 200 native tree saplings, contributing to the restoration and long-term conservation of one of Delhi’s most significant ecological landscapes.

Why the Central Ridge Matters
The Central Ridge is often referred to as the “green lungs” of Delhi. As a part of the ancient Aravalli ecosystem, it plays a critical role in maintaining the ecological balance of the National Capital Region. The forest acts as a natural carbon sink, supports numerous species of birds and wildlife, helps reduce dust pollution, and mitigates the urban heat island effect.
Protecting and expanding this green cover is essential for building a healthier and more climate-resilient Delhi.
By planting native species suited to the local ecosystem, this initiative strengthens the forest’s natural biodiversity while ensuring better survival rates and long-term ecological benefits.

Every Sapling Represents Hope
Tree plantation is about much more than putting a plant into the ground. Every sapling symbolizes a long-term investment in the future of our environment.
As these trees grow, they will:
- Improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen.
- Support birds, pollinators, and native wildlife by creating natural habitats.
- Reduce urban temperatures and combat the heat island effect.
- Improve soil health and reduce erosion.
- Increase groundwater recharge and strengthen local ecosystems.
- Contribute to India’s climate action and sustainable development goals.
Each of the 200 native saplings planted during the drive represents a promise—a promise of cleaner air, healthier ecosystems, and greener cities for future generations.
Volunteers at the Heart of the Movement
Environmental conservation is successful only when communities participate.
The plantation drive witnessed the inspiring participation of 35 volunteers, who came together with a shared purpose of giving back to nature. From digging planting pits to carefully placing saplings and ensuring proper plantation techniques, every volunteer played an essential role in making the initiative successful.
Their enthusiasm reflected a growing awareness that meaningful environmental change begins with collective action. Small individual efforts, when combined, create a significant positive impact on our planet.
At Green Pencil Foundation, we firmly believe that every citizen has the power to become an environmental steward, and community-driven initiatives like these demonstrate how collective responsibility can create lasting change.

Strong Partnerships for a Sustainable Future
Large-scale environmental restoration is possible only through collaboration.
Green Pencil Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Forest Department for their continued support, guidance, and commitment to conserving Delhi’s natural ecosystems.
Such partnerships between government institutions, civil society organizations, and community volunteers create a powerful model for sustainable development. Together, we can accelerate efforts to restore degraded landscapes, improve urban biodiversity, and inspire greater public participation in environmental conservation.
Green Pencil Foundation’s Commitment to Climate Action
Tree plantation forms an important pillar of Green Pencil Foundation’s broader environmental mission.
Through its climate action initiatives, the Foundation works with government agencies, educational institutions, corporate partners, and local communities to promote environmental awareness, biodiversity conservation, sustainable lifestyles, and community participation.
Every plantation drive is designed not merely as a one-day event but as a long-term investment in ecological restoration and environmental stewardship. By encouraging volunteerism and creating meaningful partnerships, Green Pencil Foundation aims to inspire individuals to become lifelong advocates for nature.
Looking Ahead
The challenges posed by climate change cannot be solved by governments or organizations alone. They require active participation from every section of society.
Every tree planted today contributes to a healthier tomorrow. Every volunteer inspires another citizen to act. Every partnership strengthens the movement towards environmental sustainability.
As Green Pencil Foundation continues its mission of restoring green spaces across India, we invite corporates, educational institutions, government bodies, resident welfare associations, and citizens to join hands with us in creating a greener and more resilient future.
Together, we are not simply planting trees.
We are restoring ecosystems.
We are protecting biodiversity.
We are improving public health.
We are combating climate change.
And above all, we are planting hope for generations to come.
