Green Pencil Foundation conducted a Waste Management Workshop at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Dwarka Sector 30, New Delhi, where 80 students of Class VIII came together to learn how simple habits can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
The session was led by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, and focused on one simple message: waste is not just a problem it is a responsibility.
Rather than delivering a traditional lecture, the workshop encouraged conversations, questions, and practical learning. Students explored how waste is generated, why segregation at source is essential, the importance of the 5Rs Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover, and how small everyday actions can significantly reduce our environmental footprint.
The discussions were lively, and the curiosity in the room was inspiring. Students shared ideas about reducing plastic use, managing household waste, and encouraging sustainable practices within their families and schools. It was encouraging to see young minds connect environmental issues with actions they can take immediately.
The need for such awareness has never been greater. India generates more than 170,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste every day, making responsible waste management one of the country’s biggest environmental priorities. While policies and infrastructure are important, lasting change begins with informed citizens and classrooms are where that journey starts.

Every workshop is an opportunity to inspire young people to become responsible citizens who care for nature, influence their communities, and contribute to a more sustainable India.
