Green Pencil Foundation Launches Student-Led Chapter at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi

In a remarkable step toward strengthening youth leadership in climate action and social responsibility, the Green Pencil Foundation has officially launched its Student-Led Chapter at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. The chapter aims to empower students to take an active role in sustainability, community engagement, and solution-oriented environmental initiatives on campus and beyond.

The orientation session was conducted by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, along with Mr. Aakash Mahato, National Operations Head. Together, they introduced students to the Foundation’s vision, ongoing national initiatives, and the opportunities available through the new chapter.

Speaking at the orientation, Founder Sandy Khanda emphasized the role of young minds in shaping India’s environmental future. He highlighted how student participation is essential for driving grassroots awareness, advocating for policy change, and integrating sustainable practices into everyday life.
He added, “Universities are not just centres of learning—they are the breeding grounds for leadership. With the launch of this chapter at JNU, we hope to inspire a new wave of climate-conscious youth leaders who will contribute meaningfully to nation-building.”

The session saw enthusiastic participation from students who expressed interest in organizing awareness drives, conducting peer education workshops, participating in community clean-up activities, promoting sustainable lifestyles, and contributing to research projects related to climate change and public health.

National Operations Head, Mr. Aakash Mahato, shared insights into the Foundation’s ongoing programs such as Sustainable Practices at Home, Climate Chaupal, Periods of Pride, and Freedom from Pollution. He encouraged students to take ownership of upcoming initiatives and innovate on campus-based models that can be replicated across universities nationwide.

The newly launched JNU Student Chapter is envisioned as a vibrant platform for:

Climate and sustainability awareness campaigns

Research-backed environmental projects

Leadership training and youth mobilization

Social outreach and community development

Collaborative drives with NGOs, civic bodies, and student groups

With this expansion into JNU, Green Pencil Foundation continues its mission to build a stronger, more environmentally responsible generation. The Foundation looks forward to nurturing student leaders who will drive sustainable change not only in their institutions but also in the communities they belong to.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the organization’s growing network of student chapters across India — reaffirming that when youth lead, change follows.
