In a determined effort to combat river pollution and promote environmental sustainability, the Green Pencil Foundation successfully organized a Yamuna Clean-up Drive at Sarita Vihar. This initiative was conducted under the Namami Gange program, a flagship mission of the Government of India dedicated to the rejuvenation of the Ganga and its tributaries, including the Yamuna.
With a team of 25 dedicated volunteers from across Delhi, the Foundation took significant steps toward restoring the sacred river and raising awareness about the pressing issue of water pollution. The clean-up drive was led by Green Pencil Foundation Volunteer Mr. Mayank Gupta, who spearheaded efforts to remove waste and educate the community on the importance of river conservation.
During the drive, volunteers collectively removed several kilograms of wet and dry waste from the Yamuna riverbanks, contributing to the broader mission of reducing pollution levels and preserving biodiversity. The event underscored the urgency of addressing river contamination, as the Yamuna remains one of the most polluted rivers in India due to untreated sewage, industrial effluents, and plastic waste.
The Green Pencil Foundation continues to advocate for clean water bodies through such initiatives, emphasizing that every small effort counts in protecting our environment. The organization calls upon citizens, policymakers, and environmental activists to join hands in ensuring the sustainable management of natural resources.
“Our rivers are lifelines for millions, and it is our collective responsibility to keep them clean. Through this clean-up drive, we not only removed waste but also encouraged public participation in environmental conservation,” said Sandy Khanda, Founder & Director of Green Pencil Foundation.
The Foundation urges individuals and institutions to take part in similar environmental initiatives, reinforcing the message that together, we can build a cleaner and greener India.
