Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, organized an insightful session on Intergenerational Bonding at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 12A, Gurugram.
The programme aimed to foster mutual respect, understanding, and emotional connection between younger and older generations, emphasizing how shared values and communication can strengthen the fabric of Indian society.
The interactive session was led by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder and Director of Green Pencil Foundation, along with resource persons Neha, Aakash Mahato, and Divyansh Gandhi. They engaged students through real-life stories, role plays, and discussions highlighting how youth can play an active role in building empathy and respect for elders.

Mr. Khanda spoke about the importance of reconnecting youth with traditional wisdom and values, saying, “In a rapidly changing digital world, bridging the emotional gap between generations is essential for social harmony and mental well-being. Respecting our elders and learning from their experiences can guide the younger generation toward more compassionate and responsible citizenship.”
Participants were also encouraged to reflect on the changing dynamics of Indian families, the challenges faced by the elderly in urban settings, and how small gestures — such as spending time with grandparents or volunteering with senior citizens — can make a big difference.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students and teachers, who expressed appreciation for the Foundation’s efforts in promoting such meaningful social awareness programmes.

According to government reports, India’s elderly population (aged 60 and above) is projected to reach 194 million by 2031, highlighting the urgent need for initiatives that encourage intergenerational understanding and care. The collaboration between Green Pencil Foundation and NISD aims to build a more inclusive and compassionate community through continued awareness sessions across schools and colleges.
