Green Pencil Foundation Organises Campus Climate Vartaleap at Government Senior Secondary School, Chhainsa, Faridabad

In a significant step towards fostering youth-led climate action, the Green Pencil Foundation successfully organised the Campus Climate Vartaleap at the Government Senior Secondary School, Village Chhainsa, Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The initiative was conducted with the support of Commutiny the youth collective and Vartaleap and is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to nurture climate-conscious leaders among the youth.

The event was led by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of the Green Pencil Foundation, as part of his ongoing Changeloom Youth Leaders in Climate Actions journey. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between environmental awareness and actionable solutions, encouraging students to move “from intention to action” on climate issues.

As a unique platform for open dialogue, the event brought together students, teachers, and school principals to engage in discussions on pressing local climate challenges, including waste management, air pollution, water conservation, and sustainable campus practices. Participants shared insights, proposed solutions, and explored ways to integrate environmentally friendly practices into daily school life.

Faridabad’s Environmental Challenges

Faridabad, a rapidly developing industrial city in Haryana, faces several environmental challenges that impact its residents and ecosystems:

Air Pollution: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Faridabad’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a “Moderate” level of 118 on September 27, 2025, indicating the presence of pollutants like PM2.5 and PM10 in the air.

Water Scarcity: The Haryana Water Resources Authority’s 2025 report highlights that Faridabad exhibits a notable density of water stress, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable water management practices.

Waste Management: A report by The Tribune India reveals that Faridabad generates approximately 900 tonnes of solid waste daily, with only 10% of it being processed due to limited waste processing infrastructure.

Green Pencil Foundation’s Commitment to Climate Action

The Green Pencil Foundation plans to replicate this model across 12 schools and colleges in the region, fostering an ecosystem where young minds are empowered to take proactive steps toward climate resilience. Mr. Khanda emphasized that such engagements are critical in cultivating responsible, informed, and action-oriented youth leaders, who can drive meaningful change in their communities.

Through initiatives like Campus Climate Vartaleap, the Foundation continues to reinforce its commitment to sustainability education, youth empowerment, and community-led climate action, creating a tangible impact at both local and regional levels.
