The Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, organised a one-day sensitisation programme at Government Senior Secondary School, Village Chhainsa, Ballabgarh, on September 18, 2025.
The session was attended by 70 students and facilitated by Ms. Himanshi Mehra, Mr. Sandy Khanda, and Mr. Aakash Mahato, who led engaging discussions on intergenerational bonding, empathy, and mutual understanding between youth and the elderly. The programme aimed to help students appreciate the value of traditional wisdom, familial relationships, and community care—key aspects of India’s social fabric often overlooked in modern, fast-paced lifestyles.

This initiative forms part of a larger partnership between Green Pencil Foundation and NISD, under which 15 sensitisation programmes are being organised across 10 government schools in Faridabad, Gurugram, Jind, and Karnal districts of Haryana. The series focuses on strengthening the emotional, cultural, and moral connections between generations, encouraging young people to play an active role in supporting elders and preserving intergenerational harmony.
Speaking about the collaboration, Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of the Green Pencil Foundation, emphasized, “India’s greatest strength lies in its social values and family bonds. Through these sessions, we aim to bridge the generational gap and instil compassion, gratitude, and respect for elders among youth.”
The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), functioning as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice, has been instrumental in promoting awareness on senior citizen welfare, substance abuse prevention, and social responsibility. In India, over 138 million elderly citizens (as per the 2021 census estimates) represent a significant and growing part of the population, making intergenerational solidarity essential for an inclusive and caring society.

Through this collaboration, the Green Pencil Foundation continues to strengthen its mission of social awareness, youth empowerment, and sustainable community engagement, ensuring that compassion and social responsibility are embedded in young minds from an early age.
