Green Pencil Foundation Celebrates 79th Independence Day with a Call for a Plastic-Free Future

The Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with the India Healthcare Foundation, celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day at Government Senior Secondary School, Islampur, Gurugram, with a special focus on environmental protection.

The event was not just about honoring our nation’s freedom—it was also about encouraging everyone to work towards freedom from plastic pollution.

Celebration Highlights

The aim was to promote the use of sustainable alternatives and reduce single-use plastic.

Active Student Participation – More than 400 students from Classes 1 to 12 took part in the celebration with great enthusiasm, showing their willingness to adopt eco-friendly habits.

Support from School Leadership – Principal Mr. Lakhpat Singh Raghav, Headmistress Ms. Savita, and Eco-Club Lead Teacher Ms. Suman Sahu appreciated the efforts of both organizations in spreading environmental awareness.

Why This Matters

Independence Day reminds us of the sacrifices made for our nation’s freedom, but it also calls on us to take responsibility for our environment. Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges of our time, and small actions—like carrying a cloth bag or using a reusable bottle—can make a big difference.

At Green Pencil Foundation, we believe that change starts at the community level, especially by inspiring young people to lead the way towards a Plastic-Free Gurugram and a Greener India.

Together, let’s celebrate freedom by protecting our planet.
