As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental education, Green Pencil Foundation, in collaboration with Imperial Auto under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, organized a Plantation Drive and Sustainable Kit Distribution at Government Senior Secondary School, Sihi Sector 7E, Faridabad.
Greening the Campus: Native Trees for a Sustainable Future
During the plantation drive, the Green Pencil Foundation team planted 10 native Jamun trees, each standing at an impressive 6 feet in height. These trees not only enhance the school’s green cover but also contribute to air purification, biodiversity conservation, and soil health improvement. Native tree plantations play a crucial role in mitigating the urban heat island effect and increasing carbon sequestration, aligning with India’s climate action goals.
Empowering Students with Sustainable Essentials
The initiative also saw the distribution of 200 Sustainable Kits to students, reinforcing the foundation’s commitment to fostering eco-conscious habits among the younger generation. Each Sustainable Kit included:
Stainless Steel Water Bottles – To reduce single-use plastic consumption and promote hydration in an eco-friendly manner.
Cloth Bags – To encourage a shift away from plastic bags and instill sustainable shopping habits.
Reusable Cloth Pads – As part of the ‘Periods of Pride’ initiative, ensuring menstrual hygiene awareness and reducing non-biodegradable sanitary waste.
Educational Booklets – Providing insights on sustainable practices, climate change, and everyday eco-friendly solutions.
A Collective Effort for Environmental Awareness
The event was attended by Ms. Seema Gautam, Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, along with Green Pencil Foundation volunteers Mr. Prem Kumar, Alok Kumar, and Saubhagya. Their active participation emphasized the significance of community-driven climate action.
Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, Mr. Sandy Khanda, expressed his gratitude towards Imperial Auto for their CSR Partnership and extended his appreciation to the District Administration for their continuous support in making such impactful initiatives possible.
Sustainable Practices Workshop: Educating for a Greener Tomorrow
In addition to the plantation and kit distribution, the event featured a Sustainable Practices Workshop—an initiative that integrates climate education, awareness advocacy, and hands-on actions to equip young minds with the necessary knowledge and skills to combat climate change. These workshops are part of the broader ‘Clean and Green Faridabad Mission’, which aims to educate students on sustainable living and environmental responsibility.
Mr. Gaurav Mishra, Co-founder of Green Pencil Foundation, highlighted the alignment of these efforts with key national and global sustainability agendas, including:
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – Particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
Vikshit Bharat 2047 – The Government of India’s vision for a self-reliant and sustainable nation.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Initiative by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi – Encouraging citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers.
Pradhan Mantri Suryoday Yojana – Promoting solar energy adoption to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
Expanding the Reach: A Sustainable Vision for Faridabad
The Clean and Green Faridabad Mission, launched earlier this year, aims to impact thousands of students by incorporating sustainability education in government schools. With the first phase targeting five schools and 1,200 students, Green Pencil Foundation, in partnership with Imperial Auto, plans to expand the initiative to every school in Faridabad. The long-term goal is to create a new generation of environmentally responsible citizens equipped with the knowledge and resources to drive change.
