Planting Hope, Growing Green Schools: Green Pencil Foundation’s Mega Tree Plantation Drive in South Delhi

Sometimes, change begins with something as simple as putting a sapling into the soil.

At South Delhi Nigam Pratibha Girls School, that simple act became a moment of learning, participation and hope as Green Pencil Foundation organised a Mega Tree Plantation Drive under its Green School Monsoon Mission 2026 campaign.

It was not just another plantation event.

It was about bringing students closer to nature and helping them understand that protecting the environment is not someone else’s responsibility it begins with all of us.

When a School Becomes a Little Greener

Schools have a special role to play in building a sustainable future.

The lessons children learn today often stay with them for years. So, what better place to talk about climate change, trees and sustainability than a school?

Through the Green School Monsoon Mission 2026, Green Pencil Foundation is taking environmental action directly into school communities.

At South Delhi Nigam Pratibha Girls School, students got the opportunity to participate in the tree plantation activity and experience something that no textbook can fully teach the feeling of putting a living plant into the ground and knowing that it will need your care to grow.

That small experience can create a much bigger connection with nature.

From Saplings to Green Champions

A tree doesn’t become a tree overnight.

It needs water, sunlight, care and protection.

The same is true for environmental awareness.

We believe that young people should not only be told about climate change and sustainability; they should be given opportunities to experience, participate and take action.

Tree plantation is one such opportunity.

Why the Monsoon Matters ,the monsoon season brings new life to our surroundings and also creates a natural opportunity for plantation activities.

Under the Green School Monsoon Mission 2026, Green Pencil Foundation is using this season to encourage schools and communities to take meaningful steps towards creating greener spaces.

But plantation is only the first step.

The real work begins after the photographs are taken.

The saplings need regular care, protection and monitoring so that they can survive and eventually grow into healthy trees.

That is the kind of long-term environmental responsibility we want to encourage.

There was something special about seeing students become part of the plantation drive.

For them, it was an activity outside the usual classroom routine.
