Some of the most meaningful learning happens when children step outside the classroom and begin to observe the world around them.
Today’s Nature Observation Class by Green Pencil Foundation was a beautiful reminder of this. The session gave children an opportunity to slow down, look closely at their surroundings, ask questions, share their observations, and develop a deeper understanding of the natural environment.
Instead of learning about nature only through books and screens, the children experienced it directly. They observed plants, birds, insects, trees, and other elements of their surroundings while exploring how different parts of nature are connected.
What made the session particularly special was their curiosity. Every observation led to a question, every question opened the door to another discovery, and every discovery created a stronger connection with the environment.
At Green Pencil Foundation, we believe that environmental education for children should go beyond classrooms and textbooks. Children need opportunities to experience nature, understand biodiversity, observe their surroundings, and develop a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Nature-based learning and experiential education can play an important role in helping children develop curiosity, critical thinking, observation skills, empathy, and environmental awareness. When children regularly interact with nature, they begin to understand that the environment is not something separate from their lives. It is an essential part of the world they live in.
Our Nature Observation Classes are designed to create these meaningful learning experiences. Through outdoor observation, conversations, activities, and real-world experiences, we encourage children to become more aware of the biodiversity around them and understand the importance of protecting our natural environment.
The smiles, questions, observations, and excitement we witnessed today were a reminder that children do not always need more information. Sometimes, they simply need the opportunity to explore, observe, and discover.
Because environmental awareness does not begin with a textbook. It begins with curiosity.
And perhaps, when a child stops to notice a bird, a tree, a butterfly, or a tiny insect today, that small moment of curiosity can become a lifelong connection with nature.
