Green Pencil Foundation Collaborates with Uttar Pradesh Police for Women’s Safety under Mission Shakti

Green Pencil Foundation collaborated with the Uttar Pradesh Police, specifically the Police Commissionerate Gautam Budh Nagar, to strengthen efforts toward women’s safety under Mission Shakti a flagship initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh focused on protecting, empowering, and supporting women and girls.
Addressing Women’s Safety: A National Priority
Women’s safety remains a critical social issue in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), crimes against women continue to be underreported, especially in cases related to harassment, stalking, and domestic violence. Initiatives like Mission Shakti aim not only to improve law enforcement response but also to build community awareness, trust, and preventive mechanisms that empower women to speak up and seek help.
Recognizing that safety is closely linked to awareness, dignity, and health, Green Pencil Foundation joined hands with the Uttar Pradesh Police to amplify the message that women’s safety is a shared responsibility of institutions, communities, and civil society organizations.

Green Pencil Foundation’s Commitment to Gender Justice
For several years, Green Pencil Foundation has been actively working on issues of gender equality, women’s health, and dignity, particularly through its flagship initiative Periods Of Pride. Under this program, the Foundation addresses menstrual health and hygiene, period poverty, and gender stigma, especially among adolescent girls and women from underserved communities.
The initiative is led by Sandy Khanda, Founder & Director of Green Pencil Foundation, who has consistently emphasized that women’s safety cannot be separated from women’s health, education, and social empowerment.

On-Ground Collaboration with Law Enforcement
During the Mission Shakti initiative, key representatives from both institutions were present, highlighting the importance of collaboration between civil society and law enforcement:
Mr. Adesh, an active member of the Uttar Pradesh Police, who shared insights on women’s safety mechanisms, emergency response systems, and legal support available for women.
Mr. Aakash Mahato, representing Green Pencil Foundation, who emphasized the role of community engagement and awareness.
Mr. Sandy Khanda, who addressed the need for integrating gender sensitization, menstrual health awareness, and safety education at the grassroots level.
The interaction focused on encouraging women to report crimes without fear, educating communities about helpline numbers, police support systems, and legal rights, and fostering a culture of respect and zero tolerance toward gender-based violence.
Moving Forward
This collaboration under Mission Shakti marks another step in Green Pencil Foundation’s broader vision of creating an inclusive, safe, and equitable society. By working alongside the Uttar Pradesh Police, the Foundation aims to continue strengthening community-level interventions that ensure women not only feel protected but also empowered and heard.
Green Pencil Foundation believes that true safety is preventive, participatory, and rooted in dignity and such partnerships are essential to drive long-term social change.
