In a heartfelt step toward climate resilience and environmental restoration, the Green Pencil Foundation organized a Mega Tree Plantation Drive on 1st August 2025 at Government Senior Secondary School, Islampur, Gurugram. The initiative was designed to inspire young minds and promote ecological awareness among school students through action-based learning.
Building Climate-Conscious Campuses
The event was part of the Foundation’s larger commitment to nurturing climate-smart educational spaces. By introducing tree plantation as a participatory learning experience, students were given the opportunity to engage directly with nature and understand the role they play in combating climate change.
The activity was spearheaded by Mr. Aakash Mahato, National Operations Head at Green Pencil Foundation, who delivered a motivating address to the students. He emphasized the value of environmental ownership and encouraged students to act as changemakers in their communities.
“We are not just planting trees, we are cultivating a culture of sustainability that begins in our schools and blossoms into society,” he stated.
Restoring Biodiversity – One Tree at a Time

As part of the plantation drive, 50 native saplings—including Amla, Mango, Guava, and Jamun—were planted by students, teachers, and volunteers. These species were purposefully selected to support local biodiversity, improve air quality, and contribute to long-term environmental resilience.
Native trees not only thrive in their natural habitat but also support pollinators, conserve water, and provide fruits and shade to the school community—offering both environmental and nutritional benefits.
A Vision for Green Hope
The event was graced by Mr. Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address to students and faculty, he shared a powerful message:
“Let’s rewild and restore our hopes. It’s time to stand together and fight climate change with collective action and green resolve.”
His words served as a rallying cry for unity, urging everyone to think beyond symbolic gestures and embrace real, grassroots-level environmental change.

Honoring Young Environmental Champions
Recognizing the role of student leadership in environmental conservation, the Green Pencil Foundation team felicitated the Eco Club President of the school with a Sustainability Kit. This gesture was meant to empower young climate leaders and encourage them to lead their peers by example.
The school’s Eco Club, actively led by teacher Ms. Suman Sahu, was instrumental in mobilizing students and ensuring the smooth execution of the event. Their dedication stood as a testament to the transformative power of environmental education.
Institutional Support and Community Involvement
Mr. Lakhpat Singh, Principal of the school, appreciated the initiative and emphasized the importance of integrating sustainability into the school curriculum. He expressed optimism about continued collaborations with the Green Pencil Foundation to further the mission of environmental awareness and action.

A Greener Tomorrow Begins Today
At Green Pencil Foundation, we believe true climate action begins at the grassroots level. Schools are not just learning spaces—they are the heart of transformation. By engaging youth in sustainable practices and connecting them with the natural world, we are preparing a generation of conscious, capable, and committed citizens.
This plantation drive was not just about planting trees—it was about planting values, seeding hope, and rewilding the future.
